Council tax, parish by parish
What a home pays in council tax in each parish in England, in every band, who receives it, and why the bill changes from one village to the next. Straight from the government's own figures for 2026-27.
Why next door pays a different amount
England has 10,226 parishes in the 2026-27 figures, and 9,084 of them add a parish precept to their residents' council tax. Everyone in a district pays the same to the district council, the county, the police and the fire service; the parish precept is the part that changes from one parish to the next. The largest this year is £551.46 at Band D, in Elmton (Bolsover district).
